11/9 - The annual WMS Food Drive starts next week.

Hello Wellington Middle School.

Each year, our WMS library coordinates a food drive.  We donate the canned and boxed food to the local food banks.  Each year that we have done the drive, we have fed 100+  local families.  This is quite an accomplishment for our little school.  Thank you.  Thank you.

This year’s drive will start Monday, November 12th and will run until December 14th.

Bring any non-perishable food to your Advisory class.  (canned beans, canned carrots, cereal boxes, oatmeal boxes, canned tuna, canned soup, ramen noodles, etc.)   Please, ask your parents before you raid the cupboards.

If you bring your canned food to the library before you bring it to your Advisory class, we will get rid of library fines you owe.  One item will get rid of up to $1.00 in fines.  So, if you owe $1.50 in fines, bring in two cans.

Not only will you be helping yourself get rid of fines, you will also be helping our community.  Wait!  There is more.  The three Advisory classes that collect the most cans by December 14th, will win prizes.

Last year, Ms. Hacker’s Advisory team earned 1st place.  Mrs. Stalnaker’s Advisory class came in second place.  And, Mr. Lake received third place honors.

We will give an update on totals each week.  Thanks a bunch Eagles!

There are other ways to help us with this cause too.  Besides bringing in cans, we could use help counting, sorting, and boxing donated items.  If you would rather help that way, just let Mrs. Swanson know.

10/15 - The Book Fair is here this week.  Come by to explore the great books available.

You may also order online.

3/5 - Wellington Middle School Library Gets Colorado Department of Education Recognition

We are SO proud to announce that Mrs. Swanson, our Media Specialist, was notified yesterday that the Colorado Department of Education has named Wellington Middle School a Colorado Department of Education Highly Effective School Library Program School.  This award is given to only a few schools in Colorado each year.  Our library program will serve as a model to other libraries in the state who are working to improve their school library program.  Attaining "Highly Effective Status" is an honor that staff worked collaboratively on to improve student achievement through quality instruction using Colorado’s Academic Standards and 21st Century Learner Skills.  The bar is intentionally set very high for this honor-we are very proud of Mrs. Swanson, Mrs. Parks, and all of our staff for the work on this award.  Our school will retain this status until 2017.
Wellington Middle School will be recognized at a ceremony celebrating our accomplishment of attaining highly effective status at an official Colorado State Board of Education Meeting at CDE in Denver.  On the day of recognition, the Board Chair and Commissioner Hammonds will address the gathering and other board members, CDE personnel and the public.  Banners and certificates will be distributed.
