Physical Education

Wellington Middle School Physical Education:

All grade levels take at least 1 semester of P.E.  Skills and build upon each other as students move through the grade levels.  All grade levels do fitness testing and Health lessons.  We believe in the importance of understanding how to take care of the body, as well as having fun.

Grade Level Course Description

8th Grade: All students complete 1 semester of P.E., or students can choose year-long P.E.  A semester Weights class is also available for 8th graders.

Activities include:

  • Continued skill development in multiple sports
  • Game strategy such as offense and defense
  • Sportsmanship and teamwork
  • Team building activities
  • Social and emotional health
  • Fitness and fitness testing
  • Muscle development
  • Health lessons

7th Grade: All students complete 1 semester of P.E., or students can choose year-long P.E.

Activities include:

  • Increased skill development in multiple sports
  • Introduction to game strategy
  • Sportsmanship and teamwork
  • Teambuilding activities
  • Social and emotional health
  • Fitness and fitness testing
  • Muscle development
  • Balance and body awareness
  • Health lessons

6th Grade: All students complete 1 semester of P.E.

Activities include:

  • Beginning skill development in multiple sports
  • Hand-eye coordination
  • Sportsmanship 
  • Teambuilding activities
  • Social and emotional health 
  • Spatial awareness
  • Fitness and fitness testing
  • Muscle strength and endurance activities
  • Cardiovascular activities
  • Health lessons

Health: Health activities are taught in all three grade levels and are integrated into P.E. classes.  

Health lessons include:

8th grade:

  • Conflict resolution
  • Anger and stress management
  • Drug use and abuse
  • Nutrition and physical health

7th grade:

  • Human sexuality
  • Healthy relationships
  • Nutrition and physical health
  • Hygiene

6th grade:

  • Nutrition and physical health
  • Hygiene
  • Basic body systems
